The Nigerian Community Sunderland CIC is dedicated to improving the lives of its members and the broader Sunderland community through various volunteer activities. Our initiatives focus on environmental stewardship, cultural exchange, child welfare, career development, and overall well-being.

 

Environment and Beach Cleanup

As part of our commitment to environmental sustainability, the Nigerian Community Sunderland CIC organizes regular beach cleanup events. These activities not only help preserve the natural beauty of Sunderland's coastline but also raise awareness about environmental issues among our members. Volunteers come together to collect litter, recycle materials, and engage in discussions on how to reduce waste and protect our planet.

 

Cultural Exchange Through Food and Dancing

Cultural exchange is at the heart of our community activities. We host events that showcase Nigerian cuisine and traditional dances, offering an opportunity for members to share their rich heritage with the wider Sunderland community. These events foster understanding and unity, as participants enjoy authentic Nigerian dishes and learn traditional dances like the Yoruba Bata, Igbo Atilogwu, and Hausa Koroso. By celebrating our culture through food and dance, we build stronger connections within the community.

 

Child Welfare and Safety Programs

The well-being and safety of children are paramount in our community. We run child welfare and safety programs aimed at educating parents and guardians about child protection, health, and safety. These programs include as well as workshops and activities for children that teach essential safety skills in a fun and engaging way. Our goal is to create a safe and nurturing environment for all children in our community.

 

Career and Employability Events

Understanding the challenges that many members face in finding and securing employment, we offer career and employability events to equip our members with the necessary skills to thrive in the job market. These events include CV writing workshops, interview preparation sessions, networking opportunities, and career fairs. We also partner with local businesses and organizations to provide job placements and mentorship programs, helping our members to build successful careers.

 

Webinars for Financial and Health Well-Being

In addition to in-person events, we offer a series of webinars focused on financial literacy and health well-being. These online sessions cover a range of topics including budgeting, saving, investing, mental health, and physical wellness. By providing access to expert advice and resources, we aim to empower our members to make informed decisions that lead to a healthier, more financially secure life.
