Navigating the Future of Work & Professional Development

On Saturday, 28th March 2026, the Nigeria Community Sunderland CIC successfully hosted an impactful virtual professional development event titled “Navigating the Future of Work & Professional Development.” The session brought together professionals, entrepreneurs, healthcare workers, students, and members of the migrant community across the UK for an inspiring and insightful discussion about career growth, adaptability, and future opportunities in an evolving global workforce.

The event was hosted by Faith Akagbogu, Vice Chair of Nigeria Community Sunderland CIC and a professional with the UKRN, Newcastle NHS Trust. She warmly welcomed participants and highlighted the importance of continuous learning, resilience, and strategic career planning in today’s rapidly changing work environment.

One of the keynote speakers, Chima Chiaka, an AI Agile Coach and advocate for AI literacy among migrant communities in the UK, delivered a thought-provoking session on the growing role of artificial intelligence in the workplace. He encouraged attendees to embrace digital transformation, improve technological literacy, and position themselves competitively for future opportunities rather than fear technological change.

The second speaker, Okare Shaba, Health Tech Founder and Founder of Padocare, shared his entrepreneurial journey and insights into solving staffing challenges within healthcare through technology and innovation. His presentation inspired attendees to think creatively about problem-solving, leadership, and opportunities within the health and social care sector.

Throughout the session, participants engaged actively, asking questions and sharing experiences related to career progression, employability, entrepreneurship, and adapting to changes in the modern workplace. The discussions reinforced the event’s core message that success is not only about climbing the ladder, but also about finding the right wall to lean it against.

The Nigeria Community Sunderland CIC expressed appreciation to all speakers, organisers, volunteers, and participants who contributed to the success of the event. The programme further demonstrated the organisation’s commitment to empowering the Nigerian and wider migrant community through education, networking, mentorship, and professional development initiatives.

As the world of work continues to evolve, events like this remain essential in equipping individuals with the knowledge, confidence, and connections needed to thrive in the future workforce.
